![]() System of a Down went on hiatus in 2006, with Serj Tankian pursuing a solo career and Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan forming Scars on Broadway. The band has been influenced by heavy metal, punk rock and Armenian folk. Their works have earned them one Grammy Award amongst three nominations. System of a Down has achieved commercial success with five albums, and many singles such as their breakout hit "Chop Suey!", "Toxicity", "Aerials", "B.Y.O.B.", "Question!", "Hypnotize" and "Lonely Day". The band consists of Serj Tankian (vocals), Daron Malakian (vocals, guitar), Shavo Odadjian (bass, vocals) and John Dolmayan (drums). All four members are of Armenian descent, and are widely known for their outspoken views expressed in many of their songs confronting the Armenian Genocide of 1915 by the Ottoman Empire and the ongoing War on Terror by the US government. Due to the songs being unofficially released, the audio quality is usually below-average compared to what actually made it onto official albums, and many of the songs have different arrangements and different lyrics compared to their demo counterparts, sometimes sounding almost nothing like the official versions. Demo Tape 3 was released in 1997, as was Demo Tape 4 later that year. Demo Tape 1 was released in 1995, almost right after the Untitled Demo Tape. Demo Tape 4 was not released to the public, but sent to record companies and Rick Rubin. The Untitled Demo Tape was "released", or rather, sent to record dealers in 1995. Some of the information about what songs are on the tapes are inaccurate, because of almost no references. Ontronik "Andy" Khachaturian performed drums on Untitled Demo Tape, and Demo Tapes 1 and 2, before being replaced by permanent drummer John Dolmayan.
